World's Most Deadly Insect

The mosquito is an ill-reputed insect, especially in the summer months. Endlessly swarming about, these small, biting insects can ruin an outdoor experience with their persistent buzzing, but what are they?

The mosquito's anatomy is fairly simple. The insect has six legs, two antennae, a proboscis, and of course, wings. Mosquitoes beat their wings about 1000 times-per-second and produce a buzzing sound.

When not flying, mosquitoes typically hang out in wetlands or near bodies of water, hunting for their next meal!

It's easy to label mosquitoes as simple nuisances and forget about just how dangerous they really are. Most people don't think about how many diseases are spread by mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can carry bacteria that can be deadly.

More than one million people die every year from mosquito bites, according to the World Health Organization.
